Sea of Suvarna
For the script, we adapted the original Hindi play, created for Pramukh Swami Maharaj's centennial celebration, into English. This meant keeping the heart of the story intact while making sure it connected with the kids in our audience. We added humor and relatable moments, like bringing in an emcee, to make it fun and easy for them to follow.

For costume design, we worked closely with our main costume lead, who helped sew and create the outfits. We met weekly to brainstorm and refine designs, making sure each costume fit the character and was practical enough for dancing. It was a mix of creativity and problem-solving—sourcing ready-made pieces from Amazon and hunting down materials at Joann and Hobby Lobby to bring everything together.

For set design, we teamed up with the decoration team to bring the underwater world to life. The big props, like the piranhas, were built using a PVC base, fishnet, and paper mâché, then finished with spray paint and acrylic details—those piranhas alone took about 10 cans of spray paint! Alongside the larger pieces, we created smaller props like maps, treasure chests, and shells to add depth to the scene.

Practices were all about coordination and teamwork. With everyone’s busy schedules, it took some effort to get the cast and props team together. Props had to move the cast on and off stage, so that took coordination. The cast and crew worked hard to match movements to the audio, remembering lines, and perfecting dances . Watching their dedication was truly inspiring!

The audio and video were a huge learning experience! I used Premiere Pro to piece together all the clips and added some animations in Blender to enhance the visuals. On top of that, I learned how to use the AV systems at the mandir with Resolume and created lighting sequences in QLC+. It was a lot of trial and error—especially since it was our first time figuring all this out—but it was so satisfying to see everything come together in the end.

Performance day was absolutely incredible! Over 600 people came to the Kids Diwali Celebration, and seeing the energy and excitement from the audience made it all so worth it. Of course, it was a little stressful making sure everything ran smoothly, but everything came together beautifully. Watching the kids perform and seeing the joy on everyone’s faces was the best part… View whole show here!
